untitled Series
Untitled No 1
Untitled No 1 is a 6 minute solo based on Philip Glass’ Piano Etude No 12. It is composed closely to the music, which uses simple motives and repetition to create a complex composition. The score develops the musical ideas through modulation, so does the dance composition. Working on this etude, I was particularly interested in the use of ratios, especially how Glass uses three eights layered on top of four eights and rhythmically plays one against each other.
Premiered June, 2017 at the SoloDuo Festival, NY, and was further presented by the Austin Dance Festival 2018, at the Little Theater in Saratoga Springs, WestFest 2019, Gibney Showdown, Green Space Studio, and Studio 32, Stuttgart, Germany.
Running Time: 5:59 minutes
Choreography and Performance: Ramona Sekulovic
Untitled No 2
Untitled No 2 starts with a body floating as if on water, like a buoy slightly bopping up and down in the wind. As the wind becomes stronger, the buoy begins to move in space and turns. The buoy turns into a piece of paper, first fluttering in the wind, then rolling and drifting across the whole stage to finally return to where it came from. Untitled No 2 is a 5 minute solo based on Philip Glass’ Piano Etude No 6.
Premiered October, 2017 at the Dumbo Dance Festival, NY, and was produced by Green Space Studio as part of Take Root, NY in 2018.
Running Time: 5:12 minutes
Choreography and Performance: Ramona Sekulovic
Untitled No 3
Untitled No 3 is a 6 minute solo based on Philip Glass’ Piano Etude No 4. Glass uses a simple waltz rhythm and jazzes it up with accents and syncopation.
Premiered June, 2018 at the SoloDuo Festival, NY, and was further presented by Gibney Showdown, Mark Morris Shared Space, and produced by Green Space Studio as part of Take Root, NY in 2018.
Running Time: 6:34 minutes
Choreography and Performance: Ramona Sekulovic
Untitled No 4
Untitled No 4 (Unison) is an 8 minute solo based on Philip Glass’ Piano Etude No 5. The score develops the musical ideas through connectedness, addition, and repetition, so does the dance composition. Working on this etude, I was particularly interested in how Glass uses a simple motive and develops his idea through the unity of right and left hand and added accents. The dance similarly develops a theme by focusing on the unity of the body - head, legs, and arms linked through the torso.
Premiered November, 2018 at Green Space Studio as part of Take Root, NY.
Running Time: 8:19 minutes
Choreography and Performance: Ramona Sekulovic
Untitled No 5
Untitled No 5 is a 4 minute solo based on Philip Glass’ Piano Etude No 16. The score has a forward moving feel to it and is translated into a dance composition spatially. The solo starts with a wave and goodbye to the old in the upstage left corner and continuously moves towards the downstage right corner representing a new beginning. During this journey the dancing body is freed from limitations and established movement vocabulary, new movement material is discovered, expressive freedom claimed.
Premiered June, 2023 at the Dumbo Dance Festival, NY, and was further presented by the SoloDuo Festival at Dixon Place, NY.
Running Time: 4:14 minutes
Choreography and Performance: Ramona Sekulovic
